As the days grow longer and the blossoms return, our family is all about soaking up the sunshine, getting outside, and gearing up for another season of adventure. Whether we’re biking down the trail, hiking through the hills, or just goofing off in the backyard, the right gear makes all the difference. Here are some of our favorite tried-and-true spring essentials for every member of the family—from performance wear to kid-approved style.

For the Adults

1. For him: Killam PX Path Project Pants
These pants are an absolute game-changer for active spring days. They strike the perfect balance between rugged and lightweight, with just enough stretch to keep up whether you’re climbing over rocks, running after kids, or setting up camp. Plus, they’re breathable enough for a warm afternoon but still protective when the breeze picks up. My husband has literally not taken them off since the beginning of March as they are perfect for breezy and unpredictable spring weather. This same company- Path Project also makes what is touted as the “best trail running shorts” for guys. We are excited to see that all the hoopla is about soon!

2. Women’s Finisterre Seeker Merino High Neck T-Shirt
Soft, sustainable, and incredibly versatile, this Merino tee has become a go-to layering piece. The high neck adds a modern touch, while the natural temperature-regulating properties of Merino wool make it ideal for spring’s unpredictable weather. It’s great under a fleece for a chilly morning or on its own when the sun is shining. I love it with a vest over top for easy layering and lately have been skiing in it in the early mornings as it is both warm and breathable.

3. Patagonia Women’s Strider Pro Shorts
These are the ultimate trail-to-town shorts. Lightweight and quick-drying, they’re made for moving—running, hiking, or just chasing the kids at the park. The fit and the color of the Wetland Blue is not only super flattering but also functional with pockets that actually work. I find that once I put them on for the day, they stay on for all activities, which I absolutely love. Transitions and changing clothes can be very tiring – especially with demanding yet fun little ones. But these get me through to dinner during the warmer spring days.

4. Ciele Athletics W FSTTight 29″
These tights are a revelation for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities like climbing, running, or hiking. Crafted with Ciele Athletics’ COOLmatic | PLUS KLOSfit™ interlock knit fabric, they offer a compressive yet cooling fit that moves seamlessly with your body. The merrow stitch construction minimizes chafing, ensuring comfort during extended wear. Designed with multiple fuel pockets and a silicone-backed daisy chain elastic waistband, they provide practical storage for essentials, keeping items secure and accessible. Whether you’re scaling rocks, hitting the trails, or navigating varied terrains, these tights stay in place, offering both functionality and style. Available in sizes XS through XL, they cater to a range of body types which I absolutely LOVE.

4. Gnarly Pro Collagen and Protein Powder
Spring is when we start stepping up our activity game again, and recovery matters. This collagen and protein blend is our go-to for post-hike smoothies and busy mornings. It supports joint health and muscle recovery without that chalky taste, and it blends like a dream.

5. Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide Trail Running Shoes
These are the “treat yourself” shoes for anyone logging miles on the trail or chasing daylight before dinner. The S/Lab Ultra Glide blends cushy comfort with performance in a way that makes you forget you’re even wearing trail runners—which is kind of the point. The ride is smooth, the fit hugs your foot just right, and they somehow manage to feel both light and supportive. They’ve become my go-to for longer hikes and solo runs, especially when I want to cover ground but keep things easy on my joints. Basically, these are made for the moments when spring has you saying “let’s just keep going.” Note these are not so great for off trail adventures, but as long as you keep them on the trail, it feels like you are running on clouds!

For the Kids

6. Dusty Lizard Cabana Shirt – Party Shirt International
Let’s be real: the kids’ style game should be just as strong as their energy levels, and this shirt delivers. The Dusty Lizard Cabana shirt is fun, lightweight, and gives off tropical vacation vibes even if we’re just hanging out in the backyard. It’s breezy, breathable, and guaranteed to earn compliments everywhere we go. My youngest son will not take this shirt off and loves calling it his party shirt. It’s a whole vibe and our whole family is so here for it.

7. WOOM Air Off 24” Bike
If spring had a soundtrack, it would be the sound of our kids zipping around the neighborhood and down the trail on their bikes. The WOOM Air Off 24 is the real deal—it’s lightweight, rugged, and built for confident riders who are ready to take things off-road. It gives them freedom, independence, and so many chances to explore. We have loved Woom bikes from the the ages of 1 years old. They are ultra light and made with kids 100% in mind. Everything from the fit to the overall weight of the bike is taken into consideration. These bikes also hold their value and can either get passed down the line to the siblings or sold to another family!

8. T71PNK Walkie Talkies
These walkie talkies are a total hit in our household. Not only are they a blast for pretend play and backyard missions, but they’re also super useful when the kids are biking ahead on the trail or exploring around the campsite. With a surprising range and kid-friendly buttons, they give us all a little extra freedom and peace of mind.

9. Salomon Speedcross 6 Trail Shoes (Kids’ Edition)
Kids need real gear too—especially when they’re running full speed down the trail or scrambling over logs like it’s their job. The Salomon Speedcross 6 for kids brings all the grown-up tech (hello, serious traction and grippy lugs) into a pint-sized package that’s built to take a beating. They’re lightweight, durable, and perfect for muddy adventures, trail hikes, or just backyard ninja moves. My son felt like a superhero the first time he wore them—and honestly, I get it. Bonus points for the Quicklace system, which means no stopping every ten minutes to tie shoes. Major win for the time being!

For the Family

Connecting the lights to stakes is a breeze, allowing you to position them precisely where you need them. This lets you illuminate your tent spot for both ambiance and safety. The durable, hammer-proof ABS stakes offer extra holding power, making them reliable even in windy conditions. An innovative feature is the dual-directional on/off swivel, ensuring easy operation from any angle. Additionally, the lights charge wirelessly in their case, providing convenience and ensuring they’re always ready for your next adventure! While we have only used them thus far on our back deck, they are making us excited to use for our first camping trip next weekend!
